UnMasking Boston Discovery Workshop

UnMasking Discovery: A Journey of Identity, Voice and Impact

What about masks and unmasking?
As we go through life, we develop different protective mechanisms for surviving and thriving. Over time, those shields or masks become a part of our identity, how we see ourselves and how we show up in the world. We eventually forget that we no longer need those masks to thrive in the world but are unwilling to take them off for fear of what it will reveal or that we will not survive without them. Sometimes, we are unable to take them off because we do not know how to do so. Hence, we remain men and women behind masks.

What is the workshop about?
The workshop is a social action and personal development experience thattouches on authentic leadership, dealing with marginalization, internalized oppression, anger management, process work, deep democracy, presencing, identity clarification and finding one's voice. The workshop tells a story of struggle and triumph. In that context, it mirrors the story of everyone who has ever lived with masks, lost their voice, been spoken for or been marginalized by another person or group.

This workshop is about making life simpler, richer & lighter and about enhancing leadership impact in the world. It is a two-day transformational and skill building experience. Masks and mask making are featured as part of the overall experience.

During the experience, Okokon takes you along on his personal transformation journey and frames the path for the ensuing workshop experience. It is a surrendering of a life-limiting narrative in search of a life-affirming narrative filled with meaning, reclaiming one’s identity and emergence into conscious presence and leadership.

What will I take away?
1) Understanding and framing experiences in UnMasking terms
2) Knowledge of and tending to one's garden of consciousness
3) Awareness and practice of at least one grounding ritual or strategy
4) Knowledge and practice of at least one outlet for expressing the deep emotion of anger
5) Awareness of the historic and oppressive nature of masks
6) (Re)Discovering trust and intimacy
7) Coming home to one's self
8) An experience of UnMasking

Who can attend?
Anyone who wants more out of life
Anyone who works with people who have lost their voice
Anyone who desires to work towards helping heal the planet
